Water Filtration Plant

What is filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

  1.  oil
  2.  air
  3.  pool
  4. water

Materials

1. Funnel
2. Container
3. Filter Paper
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.

Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )

Step 1

Cut the bottle..... into two pieces

Step 2

Put the top half upside down ....... into the bigger piece of the cut bottle

STEP 3

Add layers of .... sand and pebbles

STEP 4

Get 1 cup of dirty water ....... and pour it into the bottle

STEP 5

Pour dirty water into ...... top half of bottle, the upside down piece

Findings

Write a short sentence about the water every 1 minute.
Include 'How much water has filtered through', 'How fast it is dripping through', and 'How clear the water is'.

Minutes                          1.                         2.                   3.                    4.                       5.
Drops per minute:
Water colour:          very brown   dark/light brown    med/light brown   light brown   lighter brown
Conclusion: We cut a bottle in half, turned the top half upside down and put sand, then pebbles. After that we added dirty water, the water was supposed to turn clear, but instead it still was dirty brown water. It took 5 minutes to at least turn lighter then it was at the start. We kept on putting the water back into the cup and then pouring it back into the bottle again and it worked well.
