Compass

                                 Navigation with a compass

The first compass was invented in china,William Thomson,1st Baron kelvin invented them.  The four  directions are North, South, East and West going clockwise they are NESW. This effect is known as deviation. The compass is used in building and construction for marking landmarks. People use a compass for orienteering, snowboarding, golf, runing, skiing. A compass is used when you work as a boat captain when you make sure the boat is going the right way because you might need to go North or East

Navigation

 Aim:

I want to walk in a straight line with no senses.

Hypothesis:

I predict that we might walk in a straight line but might hit someone

Method:

Equipment

  • Bucket
  • Blindfold
  • Cotton wool
instructions:

1. Using a blindfold you need it over you eyes

2. Put cotton wool in your ears

3. Put bucket on your head

4. Spin in a circle 3 times

5. Get a partner to line you up in the right direction

6. Begin to walk in a straight line


Safety

  • Stop when you hear the whistle!
  • If your partner says stop you must stop!
  • do not walk into objects (buildings, people and trees) 
Results

  • Find a find a satellite picture of the field
